Journey of the BIG Carbon Footprint

A comic commission Dekko Comics developed for ng homes after our earlier collaboration, ‘Young Green Champions’ won the CCF Award.

ng homes wanted a comic to be developed in collaboration with children from their communities. Dekko Comics ran workshops where children explored ideas about the environment and our carbon footprint and how to share them in a fun way. After the workshops, Dekko Comics developed a professional comic based on their ideas (the children’s original artwork can be found at the end of the comic).

The aim was to raise awareness around climate change in a way that was engaging, entertaining and easy for all ages to understand — and about creating positive change at a community level.

Below are the original ideas and artworks that the children within the ng homes communities came up with during our creative workshops. They are a combination of ideas from Elmvale Primary School, African Challenge, Afghan United and the North Glasgow Chinese Community.

Look closely and you can see which comics were based on certain ideas. Dekko Comics wanted to ensure the children’s creativity and voices would be heard through the art we created with them.

These are some of the ideas we didn’t have space to include but wanted to give a nod to. Some of them we tried to include in the front cover and intro/conclusion comic story.
