The new General Data Protection Regulation (the “Regulation”) comes into force on 25 May 2018. The Regulation requires companies and other bodies to be explicit about their retention of personal information. It also normally prohibits such companies from holding and using individual’s personal information without the free and explicit consent of those individuals. The Regulation includes the following rights for individuals:

  • the right to be informed;

  • the right of access;

  • the right to rectification;

  • the right to erasure;

  • the right to restrict processing;

  • the right to data portability;

  • the right to object; and

  • the right not to be subject to automated decision-making, including profiling.


Dekko Comics Ltd is a private company limited by shares incorporated in Scotland on 27 April 2016 with registered company number SC533722 and having its registered office at Langshot Farm Acre Valley Road, Torrance, Glasgow, Scotland, G64 4DL (“Dekko Comics”). Dekko Comics is the data controller. This means that it collects and holds the personal data of its customers, staff and freelancers and decides how your personal data is processed and for what purposes.


Customers” for this purpose includes:

  • those who have made purchases from Dekko Comics; and

  • those who have previously asked to be included in Dekko Comics email circulation lists; and

  • those who attend or previously attended Dekko Comics events; and

  • those who are due to participate or have participated in Dekko Comics events; and

  • those who submit their or their child’s artwork to Dekko Comics to be published by Dekko Comics in their comics, website and/or social media channels as fan art


Staff” for this purpose includes employees and those who have previously contracted with or been employed within Dekko Comics.


Freelancers” for this purpose includes those who are currently contracted to do work for and on behalf of Dekko Comics


“Personal Data” in this regard means the customer’s (or staff or freelancer’s) name, business and position therein, home address, email address, and matters related to their transactions with Dekko Comics , online identifiers such as IP addresses and cookies and attendance at Dekko Comics events, including photographs from those events..


This information is collected through a Customer’s completion and submission of the Dekko Comics Privacy Policy Customer Declaration, the Event Registration Form, Customer purchases from Dekko Comics and/or through any additional correspondence between Customers and Dekko Comics.


Customer’s Personal Data is stored and held by the Director of Dekko Comics. Copies of correspondence between Customers, prospective customers and will also be retained, normally by the staff member contacted. Copies of correspondence with a staff member may also be shared with other staff members.


Customer’s Personal Data will be used to:

  • fulfil orders;

  • maintain the mailing list of Customers who have given their consent for this service;

  • notify Customers of forthcoming Dekko Comics events and other announcements directly relevant to the activities of the Dekko Comics;

  • notify Customers of third-party events or news announcements considered by Dekko Comics to be of possible interest to Customers (e.g. publications); and

  • maintain accurate records relating to the financial and other activities of Dekko Comics (e.g. lists of customers and their payment of fees);

  • publish fan art submitted to Dekko Comics for this purpose.


Additionally, the mailing list may be used to identify possible participants for conferences and other such events; this may be used in addition to information in the public domain (e.g. statements on firm staff pages) or otherwise published.


Communication with Customers will normally be by email, unless a different channel of communication is requested by the requested of the Customer. Requests for communication by a channel other than email will be honoured where reasonably practical.


Customers are asked to provide an unambiguous statement of consent to their Personal Data being stored and used in this manner. Consent will be deemed to expire after a period of ten years. Consent may also be withdrawn at any time by the Customer by notifying Dekko Comics current Director in writing or by email. Customers who do not provide consent will be removed from the mailing list and will not be contacted about the activities of Dekko Comics.


Customers have the right to ask for a copy of the Personal Data held on them or to correct that information at any time. The Director will comply with any Customer’s request for rectification or deletion of or access to their personal data within one calendar month.


Dekko Comics will treat your personal data as strictly confidential, and will be shared only with third parties as required to fulfil services on your behalf, including our freelancers, payment providers Squarespace & Paypal, banks, our regulated professional advisors and accountant, website host Go-Daddy and server provider Microsoft Office 365, our email, event booking service Eventbrite and MailChimp when you subscribe to our mailing list. Otherwise, Dekko Comics will not normally share Customer personal data with third parties. Exceptions to this are limited to instances where: (a) the independent examiner of Dekko Comics accounts and/or reports makes a reasonable request for information directly relevant to the prudent exercise of his or her office (e.g. regarding Customer’s attendance of a Dekko Comics event and payment or non-payment of the event dues); and (b) a list of delegates attending a Dekko Comics event is requested by the staff of a building or institution hosting that event for security purposes. Customers who do not consent to this sharing of their personal information will be unable to register for Dekko Comics events where there is a charge or a delegate list might be required by the host building or institution. Dekko Comics may also be legally bound to share Customer’s Personal Data with other third parties e.g. on receipt of a court order or warrant or to cooperate with an official investigation by the police or like body.


Complaints or queries about data handling or breaches of privacy should in the first instance be directed to the current Director.


Those who, for reasons related to a disability, require this statement in a difference format should contact the Director to discuss their requirements.
